Lindquist partner Joseph Thiermann, CPA, a Chicago native, was able to share his expertise as a speaker at Illinois CPA Society’s Employee Benefits Conference (ICPAS) on May 16 at the Standard Club in Chicago. Joe was joined by James G. Haubrock, CPA, CGMA, to discuss the work outside of 401(k) plans. The two dove into the many things for accountants to consider when working on plans other than 401(k) audits and other trends and hot topics in non-401(k) plans. Having had more than 28 years’ experience working in employee benefit plans, Joe shared his expertise on the differences when auditing multi-employer plans compared to other benefit plans.
Lindquist’s Director of Forensic and Valuation Services Rich Gordon was part of an expert panel at the AFWA East Bay Chapter meeting on May 17, 2017. The discussion topic was “Trends in Fraud: How to Prevent, Detect and the Juicy Stories.” Each of the three panelists were able to share their own methods and tips on how to prevent fraud within one’s organization. Rich discussed the many conventional and unconventional methods he has used to detect and catch fraudsters in the act. The AFWA East Bay chapter represents women in accounting and finance, and provides an opportunity to network and continue their professional education with those in their field.
On May 19, 2017, Lindquist partner Jessica Roster, CPA, served as a panelist at California Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (CalCPA) Employee Benefits Annual Audit Conference. Jessica had the chance to share her expertise on various topics including the changing regulatory, reporting and disclosure requirements surrounding employee benefit plan audits. Jessica was joined by five other panelists to help share tips on conducting a sound quality audit and giving timely advice. Some of the more than 40,000 members of CalCPA were in attendance at this annual conference or listening in via a webinar.
